She's just not that into you.

At 6 months old, I'm concerned Sabrina might be giving me a glimpse into her future dating life, and I don't like what I see.

She's in a home daycare three days a week. Grandparents have her the other two days. We had really warm fuzzy feelings for our daycare provider at first; now those feelings are just really fuzzy so we're positively thrilled that my sister in law will start watching her next week. She'll get to hang with my nephew who is only 4 months older, and we know she'll be in great hands. But that's not what this post is about.

Despite our concerns, Sabrina loves her daycare provider. She gets positively giddy around her. Huge smiles, laughs, generally acts like a spaz. For the life of me, I don't understand why.

In the beginning, she was very attentive - or at least knew to act like she was attentive at 4:15 when I picked my daughter up. She was always holding her, playing with her, giving her loves. Great! But now? She's on the phone, or the computer, or both, while my child - the only child left at that point, mind you - lays there batting at toys on the activity gym or sits by herself in a high chair staring at the wall.

So why is she so enamored with this woman? I pick her up, get her ready to leave, turn to say goodbye to her daycare provider, and Sabrina lights up. Starts giggling, talking, smiling. I don't get it.

The minute we get outside I inform her, "Hey doll, she's just not that into you. Give it up."

I didn't read the book, "He's Just Not that into you", because when it came out my guy (now husband) really was that into me so it wasn't applicable. However had it come out a year or two earlier, it would have been totally applicable and I would have not only read it, but probably would have carried it around like a bible. I don't want Sabrina to inherit that uncontrollable need to pursue the guy (or girl) that clearly isn't that into her. The kind that is distant at best, kind of an ass at his or her worst. But the way she behaves with her daycare provider makes me wonder...is she already doing that? Crap. I guess time will tell.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry until Sabrina starts hanging pictures of her babysitter in her crib and texting her at all hours of the night.

Then there MIGHT be a problem ;)
