28 weeks

I haven't posted too much specific to my pregnancy because it has been so uneventful. Which is fabulous. And so different from last time.

This time, it was not only a very welcome surprise (and free!) but the pregnancy has been pretty much normal. Sure, apparently my cervix is totally soft (like butta) and that concerns my OB, but it's not the incredibly shrinking cervix I had with Sabrina and - get this - I only have normal braxton hicks contractions. On occasion. Not every 2-5 minutes of every hour of every day for months.

And, um, hello normal pregnant women? This is easy. Stop complaining. If you lack attention, please seek therapy or get it elsewhere because now I know for sure that a normal pregnancy does not warrant constant complaining (or even talking about it that much). Really, no one cares. Okay, specifically, I don't care. Yes, my back hurts. Yes, I'm hot. Yes, I'm tired. Yes, I'm uncomfortable. It's normal. Stop complaining about it.

28 weeks was a huge milestone for me when I was pregnant with Sabrina. We had finally reached the point where she stood the best chance of not only surviving a pre-term birth but eventually thriving. This time, 28 weeks crept up on me. I wasn't counting the days (or contractions) until we met that milestone. I wasn't stressing out about everything and worried constantly about pre-term birth.

This time, in the absence of the constant fear, I've actually been able to connect with the little guy I've been carrying around. I didn't get that opportunity with Sabrina. Of course I loved her before she was born, but things were so bad for so long a part of me kept my distance...just in case. As if that would help ease the pain had it not turned out the way it did. It's so different with this one. I will forever view pregnancy as a day by day journey, and certainly don't take for granted that we will have a baby boy in August - I know full well what can happen between now and then and for now, we just hope for the best. I like this guy. I think he's a jokester for some reason, and also feel like he's just this mellow, cool, little dude in many ways. I really can't wait to meet him. Obviously I want him to wait until he's full term, but this time I'm excited, not anxious. What a difference.

Even though this is the first time I'm reading your blog, I can hear the happiness in your words. Congrats on crossing 28 weeks.
And you are right, a normal pregnancy is easy, however, the definition of a normal pregnancy can differ, depending on whether the child is in danger, or the mother is not too healthy. I had a great pregnancy, so totally get what you're saying, this may not be the case with other moms-to-be.
I like your blog and will be back for more.
